The primary purpose of DAO is to promote recycling and landfill diversion to protect the Earth.
Our second social purpose is to create green jobs and give them to persons with barriers to employment.
In order to achieve these missions, DAO funded the pilot project DAO Career Training Institute, Inc., an Indiana not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
The mission of the Institute is to provide the training needed to prepare technicians for green jobs in the areas of recycling, reuse and repair. DAO Career Training Institute has trained over 100 persons in 2010 through our school and internship programs.
DAO provides a blend of classroom as well as hands-on training to give our certified and licensed graduates their best opportunity to compete in the tough employment market.
DAO Career Training Institute is accredited by the US Department of Labor, licensed by the US EPA, and approved by the Veterans Administration, Indiana Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Community Action of Greater Indianapolis.
We give preference to US military veterans and priority consideration to homeless and long term unemployed persons. DAO Career Training Institute does permit persons with felony convictions to enroll.
